Atkins and chair of The Dr. Robert C. Atkins Foundation, has been named one of the nation's leading philanthropists by Newsweek and BusinessWeek magazines for her generous contributions in the field of nutrition and metabolic research. Newsweek selected Mrs. Atkins to join its 2006 Philanthropy's All-Star Team along with 13 other notable philanthropists that included Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey and Michael J. Fox. She was also ranked 14th among BusinessWeek's 2005 list of the "50 Most Generous Philanthropists," and was featured in a recent New York Times article about top medical research donors. One of the few grant-making organizations dedicated to research in this arena, the Foundation also supports educational programs and endowed professorships at leading academic medical centers. "It is my hope that the grants provided by the Atkins Foundation for independent research at distinguished institutions nationwide will help to shape and improve future clinical practices and prevent tomorrow's health problems today, by teaching our children to eat right," said Mrs. Atkins.
