Atkins Foundation has operated independently of Atkins Nutritionals, Inc. (ANI) since the sale of the company following the death of Dr. Atkins in 2003. As chairperson of the Foundation, Veronica Atkins affirms that ANI's recent reorganization has no affect on the Foundation's assets, management or mission, which is to further her late husband's legacy of disease prevention, health management and education worldwide. The Foundation's resources allow it to continue awarding grants to respected scientists at prestigious institutions for research into the impact of metabolism and nutrition on wellness, particularly related to such major issues as obesity and Type II diabetes.
